Together with siwsspeace, Folke Bernadotte Academy and the Berghof Foundation, PAW-co-convened a research-practice exchange ‘Negotiating political reintegration’ at swisspeace in Basel, May 24, 2024. A group of PAW-researchers were joined by 15 practitioners with extensive experience in political transformation, mediation/negotiation, and DDR processes.
The exchange provided a space to discuss how to leverage the existing research on the topic and the practical experiences accumulated through different peace processes to generate actionable recommendations on best practices for supporting and accompanying negotiations on the political reintegration of armed groups in the context of peace processes.
The exchange serves as a foundation for new policy guidance to mediators and DDR practitioners on how to support armed groups political integration in a changing conflict landscape.
